We Did It!

Well, Laura and I are officially Iron Girls!!! We finished the Iron Girl Texas triathlon race yesterday despite a few technical problems with her bike, and the roasting hot July Texas sun. They haven't posted the results yet but from my guesstimates I think I beat my time goal by at least 5 minutes coming in at 2:15. Laura came in at about 2:35. As soon as I know the official results I'll post them.

So the morning started out pretty harried as Laura had a flat bike tire and no spare tube to fix it with....fortunately there was a guy from Richardson Bike Mart out there who was a saint and fixed it right up. Then she had an issue with the end-cap from her handlebars...apparently one of them had fallen off in-transit and they absolutely will not let a bike through that is not capped. After a stern lecture from a fairly testy race official she was able to plug it up and wrap it with duct tape and carry on.

As for me, I won one of the first contests of the entire day...it was oh so wonderful to hear them call over the loudspeaker, to everyone, that number 122 (among others) is winner of "You Racked Your Bike the Wrong Way Award"! Yay me. :)

More details on the actual race events to come. I'm posting a picture of us pre-race. More pics to come too!

And you know, I totally expect us to do even better in September. I didn't have any problems with the distance, it was the heat that kicked my butt.
